The Power of Reflection Journaling: Prompts, Benefits, and How to Start

Today’s post is inspired by a journaling quote we came across recently by Nando Prudhomme:

“Writing in a daily journal is important but the reason why I journal
is because I can read my own writing after many months have passed by.
I’m able to reflect on my life, my actions, my behaviors, my memories
and also the behavior of others around me.”

I’ve been journaling for years now, and this quote truly resonated with me, especially the part about reflection. I don’t revisit every entry, but whenever I do, there’s a sense of nostalgia that’s honestly unmatched. It takes me back to that exact place and time, to the version of myself I used to be, and to the season I was navigating.

That feeling is actually what inspired us to create the Reflection Journal - a guided journal designed not only to help you dig deeper but also to look back with intention.

What’s Inside the Reflection Journal?

The journal includes 100 thoughtfully curated prompts covering a wide range of themes:

  • Childhood - What was my favorite toy growing up? How did it make me feel?
  • Self Love - What would I wish for someone I love if they were in my current situation?
  • Career & purpose - What is my personal definition of success stripped of others expectations?
  • Health - How do I feel in my body right now?
  • Life experiences - What two significant life events have helped shape me into the person I am today?
  • …and so much more.

We had everyone in mind when creating it.

  • Beginners will appreciate the prompts. They remove the “where do I start?” overwhelm.
  • Seasoned journalers get a chance to explore deeper layers of their experiences, which is often the true essence of journaling.

How to Get the Most Out of the Journal

Start with one prompt a day, or follow your normal journaling rhythm. Let each prompt guide your thoughts honestly and gently.

When you finish all the entries, return to the very first prompt. This is where it gets interesting:
Write a fresh entry using the same prompt; but don’t read the old one first. Just write.

Once done, go back and compare the two entries.

Every time I do this, I’m amazed at how much I’ve changed in such a short time - my worldview, my thoughts, my perspective. And sometimes, the surprise is that I haven’t changed at all…and that’s beautiful in its own way too 🤗

If you’re curious to experience this method firsthand, you can get our Reflection Journal here. It’s beautifully crafted, guided, and perfect for daily use.

P.S. Don’t forget to tell us how it went 😉

Hugs,
Note it Down Team
