Often when we think about productivity, we think about being constantly on the move - attending meetings, finishing pitch decks, checking things off our to-do lists, anything that screams ‘booked and busy’. But what if we told you that rest is just as important for productivity? Yes, rest can be productive too.
What Is Rest, Really?
A quick Google search defines rest as “cease work or movement in order to relax, sleep, or recover strength.” While that’s true, we believe rest goes beyond simply stopping. Sometimes it’s about changing the kind of movement in order to relax or restore energy.
Think of it as fuel. The same way your car can’t serve you while on empty is the same way you can’t serve yourself or others while drained. And we all know the cliché but oh-so-true phrase: you can’t pour from an empty cup.
Why Rest Is Important
The truth is, rest isn’t a luxury or a reward we earn after a hard day’s work. Rest is a necessity. It’s what allows us to keep going and show up as our best selves.
When we shift our perspective and see it as essential, it becomes something worth scheduling and protecting, just like we do with travel, work, or important projects. This intentional approach helps us stay grounded and balanced instead of waiting until burnout forces us to stop.
Different Types of Rest
Rest doesn’t look the same for everyone. It’s anything that helps you pause, breathe, and recalibrate and can look like:
- Physical – sleeping in, taking a nap, or getting a massage.
- Mental – journaling, organizing your space, or unplugging from screens.
- Emotional – connecting with friends, attending a comedy night, or simply enjoying a walk and a matcha after.
Rest for Intentional Living
Choosing to rest intentionally is choosing to live intentionally. By prioritizing rest, we acknowledge that our well-being matters just as much as our goals. And in the long run, rest makes us more focused, more creative, and more present in every area of life. (Who would have thought? Haha)
A Gentle Reminder
Don’t wait until you’re burnt out and barely holding on. Plan and prioritize your rest. Because rest isn’t time wasted, it’s time invested in the version of you that you’re becoming.
Hugs,
XO
